Our Code of Ethics
Our Code of Honor: Ethics, Inclusivity & Responsibility
At Viking Memorials, we believe that how we honor the dead is a reflection of how we lived. We are dedicated to providing families with dignified, authentic, and legal ways to celebrate a life lived with a warrior’s spirit.
Because we operate at the intersection of history, heritage, and grief, we hold ourselves to a strict code of ethics. Transparency, respect, and inclusivity are not just policies—they are our foundation.
1. Our Stance Against Hate (Declaration 127)
We explicitly and unequivocally reject racism, white supremacy, and the misappropriation of Norse symbols for hateful ideologies.
The symbols of the North belong to everyone. The values of courage, loyalty, and honor are universal. We align ourselves with the global community of Inclusive Heathenry and the principles of Declaration 127.
-
We are Universalist: We believe anyone, regardless of ethnicity, gender, sexuality, or background, can find meaning and strength in the Norse tradition.
-
We are Anti-Racist: We do not tolerate the use of our products or platform to promote "folkish" or exclusionary hate speech.
-
We Honor Deeds, Not Blood: As the Hávamál teaches, it is a person’s actions and reputation that survive them, not their lineage.
2. Ethical Sourcing & Animal Welfare
We know that many of our customers care deeply about nature and animals. We are committed to responsible sourcing for all our natural products.
-
Drinking Horns: All horn products sold on Viking Memorials are byproducts of the meat industry. No animals are ever harmed solely for their horns. We source from reputable suppliers who ensure that the animal was treated with respect and that no part of the creature was wasted.
-
Wood Products: We prioritize suppliers who use sustainable harvesting methods for our wooden urns and plaques.
3. Respect for the Law & The Environment
A "Viking Funeral" is a powerful concept, but it must be performed safely and legally. We are committed to educating our customers on how to honor tradition without breaking the law.
-
EPA Compliance: We provide clear, accurate information regarding the EPA’s "Burial at Sea" regulations (40 CFR 229.1). We exclusively recommend and sell biodegradable urns for water burials to protect our oceans.
-
No "Burning Boats": We actively debunk the myth of the "burning boat" funeral in public waters. We do not sell products intended for illegal open-air cremation. We advocate for legal, symbolic alternatives that honor the spirit of the tradition.
-
Consumer Rights: We fully support the FTC Funeral Rule. We want every family to know they have the right to purchase an urn from a third party (like us) without facing penalty fees or harassment from a funeral home.
4. Honoring the Grieving
We understand that our customers are often navigating one of the most difficult moments of their lives.
-
Dignity First: We treat every order with the gravity it deserves.
-
Truth in Advertising: We photograph our products to accurately represent their size and capacity. We clearly label our 6-inch horns as "Ceremonial Toasting Cups" to ensure they meet the expectations of the family.
To our customers: Thank you for trusting us to help you tell their story. We raise a horn to you, and to those you remember.
